SPINDO Builds Clean Water Pipeline in Gunungkidul: A Manifestation of SPINDO Peduli to Community Welfare

PT STEEL PIPE INDUSTRY OF INDONESIA Tbk (SPINDO) once again demonstrates its commitment to supporting community welfare through its SPINDO Peduli program. This time, the assistance takes
the form of constructing clean water pipeline infrastructure in Padukuhan Bulu, Kalurahan Karangmojo, Gunungkidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta – an area widely known for its extreme drought challenges during the dry season.
Improving Access to Clean Water in Areas Prone to Water Crises
The SPINDO Peduli Program has been launched to address the urgent needs of the community in Padukuhan Bulu,
which has been facing a clean water crisis during the dry season. The drought has forced residents to
purchase water tanks at a cost of approximately Rp800,000 per week, and to meet their monthly needs, they must purchase up to four water tanks. Many of them have been
forced to sell their livestock, such as cows to cover the costs of clean water.
Although there is a water source from a borehole provided by the Ministry of Defense,
the village lacks a water distribution system to the residential areas. Without pipelines, the clean water from the borehole cannot be utilized to its full potential. For this reason, SPINDO has taken on the role of providing an integrated water distribution infrastructure from the water source to the reservoir and then to the residents' homes.
Infrastructure Assistance Details and Products Used
SPINDO is constructing a piping network from boreholes to reservoirs and residents' homes using high-quality steel pipes that meet SNI 0039 standards. Product details are as follows:
- Galvanize Steel Pipe SNI 0039 Light Class
- Diameter: 1-1/2"
- Thickness: 2.9 mm
- Length: 6 meters per pipe
- Galvanize Steel Pipe SNI 0039 Light Class
- Diameter: 2"
- Thickness: 2.9 mm
- Length: 6 meters per section
With this infrastructure,
approximately 200 Households in Padukuhan Bulu now have access to a cleaner, more efficient, and sustainable water distribution system.
From Planning to Real Impact
The program began with coordination with the Public Works and Public Housing Agency (PUPR) in September 2024, followed by a technical visit from PUPR Gunungkidul in October, and a site screening process until December 2024. Following a site survey in January 2025, project implementation took place from April to May 2025 and was officially inaugurated on June 11, 2025, in the presence of representatives from SPINDO management, the PUPR Office of Gunungkidul District, and village officials and the Karangmojo Village Administration.
This project demonstrates that multi-stakeholder involvement is the key to the success of sustainable social programs based on the actual needs of the community.
SPINDO Peduli: Bringing Life, Sustainable Solutions
This program underscores that
SPINDO is not only focused on business growth but also has a strong commitment to improving the quality of life for communities through sustainable access to clean water. By providing clean water distribution channels, SPINDO helps communities reduce seasonal water expenses and strengthen their economic resilience—without having to sacrifice their livestock to survive.
Through the
SPINDO Peduli program, the company aims to be part of a solution that has a direct impact, while also supporting Indonesia's sustainable development goals.
